Jean Marie Groth Stewart April 13, 1929 – February 7, 2022

Jean Marie Groth Stewart of New Orleans entered her Heavenly home on February 7, 2022, at the age of 92. Jean was born on April 13, 1929, to the late Elmer A. and Dorothy Kauffman Groth.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years John (Jack) A. Stewart. Jean was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Orleans, where she dedicated her life to the teaching of young children in the Sunday School program. She especially cherished working with special needs children and adults. St. Paul congregation has provided her so much joy and spiritual guidance in her life. Jean loved to discuss with anyone, at any time, about anything related to her church. Even at 92, she was a trusted advisor and historian on family ancestry for St. Paul members. Based on her years of devotion to the topic, she would be contacted to confirm important pieces of information such as who is this, how are they related, and how did they become a member of St. Paul.

With her husband, Jack, they lived a life of service to others spending their senior years visiting the elderly and sick, offering comfort, kindness, and God’s Word to those who were unable to travel to St. Paul. Jean is survived by her five children, David (Sylvia), Pam Wallace (Glenn), Richard (Mimi), Mark (Mary Beth) and Michael (Ysa); 10 grandchildren, Justin Wallace, Suzanne Watt (Joey), Laura Wallace, Leigh Bagwell (Seth), Scott Stewart (Natalie), Meagan Forbes (Will), Keith Stewart, Matthew Stewart (Amanda), Charlotte Stewart, and Kimberly Stewart; 3 great-grandsons, Benjamin Stewart, Joseph Forbes, and Jackson Stewart; and sister-in-law Lillian Stewart Lange. She was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Groth McCullough; brother, Elmer (Buddy) Groth, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Mary (Mickey) McNair Groth.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation and celebration of her life at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Saturday February 12, 2022. The visitation will start at Noon with the service beginning at 1:30 pm. There is an elevator located inside the Port St. entrance if needed. Burial will be at St. Louis #3 on Esplanade Ave. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, LA 70119.
